Circle Trip Explorer

We're doing AONEx from South Africa later this year. We're still mixed between AONE4 and AONE5, considering how much trouble the 16-segment limit and lack for First on various routes gives.

With the 16-segment limit it feels that flying directly from SYD to JNB (=AONE4) and start a new Circle Trip Explorer from there to "cover" rest of the trip sounds like a good idea, especially if we downgrade from AONEx to DONEWCx.

Has anyone thought about Circle Trip Explorer wrt the changed rules? Is there something specific one should consider when planning a xONEWCx route compared to xONEx, apart from limiting to 3-4 continents and Africa must be included?

The main differences I've found between a *ONE* and a *ONEWC* are:
  • no transiting Asia between Europe and SWP (fair enough since you're not going RTW)
  • no restriction on trans-continental flights in Australia^
  • not allowed to fly the segment in the same direction more than once
