Additional N. America segment costs - mixed messages from AA
One thing I've noted recently is that the chances of getting different answers to the same question from the AA RTW desk have increased significantly.
I asked yesterday about how additional N. America segments were priced for a passenger traveling on a DONEx, specifically if an additional segment bought for a 2-class flight needed to be purchased in A or L, or could one specify an additional segment be sold in D (for $150 less than in A) and then be flown in FC because of the rule regarding D booking to A on two-class flights in the USA.
The answer I got, after a conference between the rep and a supervisor, was yes, it could be bought in D and used for A space if available.
Today I called back to do the deed, and guess what - only A or L, no D additional tickets allowed (unless it's a 3-class flight, which this isn't.)
A minor irritant to be sure, but one I could have done without. I decided to buy the seat in L and saved $400 instead of paying an extra $150. Upgrades happen, so no big deal. But bait and switch is a pain.

On a somewhat related point, I'll just note that I've gotten a bit tired of the situation where I get into a rules dispute with someone from the desk, and then eventually prevail, and then there's little acknowledgment that moments before the agent was telling me I couldn't do what I was eventually told was permissible (this came up quite a bit in terms of getting the Canadian discount, whether I needed a Canadian credit card if I was actually in Canada when I made the purchase, whether I had to live in Canada, etc.). There were also a couple of times where I believe my PNR was noted to indicate that I couldn't do something, apparently to avoid my trying to convince a different AA agent that my interpretation was correct.
Going back to Gardyloo's original posting, during my brief experience with booking a RTW ticket, it seemed that whenever I was told I COULDN'T do something, some remark would immediately be added to my PNR to that effect. Not sure if I was just being paranoid though...

The fare class of the purchased flight segments may be lower than that of the oneworld Explorer.
The other way to do it is to buy a D class segment and than switch flights.

I pointed that out to her but she was adamant. I didn't have the patience to ask for our favorite RTW agent or make a federal case out of it. F is wide open on the segment in question, and the upgrade will clear, meaning her "interpretation" will have cost AA $400.
