LHR-BOM minimizing taxes

Hi,

I want to redeem a reward ticket from LHR to BOM using Asia Miles. All flights seem to be open, so availabilty isn't an issue. I want the combination which requires the least taxes. Do all OW airlines charge surcharges on reward tickets? If I fly LHR-x/HEL-BOM are the UK departure taxes less than if I flew LHR-BOM?

I might fly WT, WT+ or CW. I was thinking WT+ but that extra tax really bites. It's a good deal though, at 52,500 miles.

Cheers,

You are originating in the UK. No way to bypass the gov't imposed taxes, so that's 40GBP for economy and 80GBP for any higher class, including WT+ on BA. If you start in another country and just connect in LHR, then you will not incur those taxes.

If you manage a stopover in Helsinki APD goes down to GBP 10/20.

Thanks for the reply. Does AY have a YQ charge on top of its regular taxes?

I don't remember seeing a comprehensive chart. However, if you price a dummy fare with ITA between the cities you are interested in it will give you a full breakdown of taxes and surcharges.

Does anyone know is AA also charges the YQ surcharge on BA flights from LHR-BOM? If not, I will try and trade 100K for 80K AA in CC...

Thanks!

No idea, but the total price after taxes for a test LHR-BOM fare is the same for both; BA priced on ITA, AA priced on aa.com.

Asia Miles will add fuel surcharge on CX/KA flights. I do not know about whether they will add on other flights. The total surcharge is likely to be more than just taxes.
