"Longest" luggage tag with OW airlines, any experience?

LVI-(BA)-JNB-(CX)-HKG-(CX)-SFO with an overnight JNB connection that was just under 24 hours. 4 bags checked, 1 delayed by a couple of days.
Not all OW but:
LAX-(AA)-JFK-(AA)-LHR-(BA)-ZRH-(LX)-BOM with an overnight LHR connection that was just under 24 hours. 2 bags checked, 2 came out. Tags were hand written at LAX.
For some reason BA in LHR said that if I had not specifically informed them at check in about the 2 bags, they would not have made my flight! May be because the onward journey from LHR was on a separate ticket.
LAX-(AA)-SJC-(AA)-NRT-(SQ)-SIN-(SQ)-BOM and vice versa. 2 separate tickets for the AA and SQ portions. 2 bags checked, 2 came out. Particularly impressive on the return as SQ schedule changes reduced the connection time in NRT to less than 30 mins. There was an AA person at NRT who personally escorted us through security and managed the transfer of bags.
