Visit Asia Pass?
apologies for cross posting but I think it's gonna get more replies here!
We're trying to go to Bangkok next winter(MFU) but surprise surprise! no availability. There is some availability to Hong Kong so I'm thinking of doing the LHR/HK mfu and use CX for the BKK r/t not stopping in HK.The cheapest way I can find to cover the HK>>Bkk bit is using OneWorlds visit Asia pass but the page I've been looking at is a bit short on info.
eg Do I book the CX legs with BA when booking the LHR >Hk legs? online?
How "flexible" will the CX tix be?(the web site talks about "open date" tix?
Will baggage be checked thro?
etc etc any experiences will help.
Cheers

YOU can't just buy ONE sector on a Visit Asia Pass. Your best bet is to buy a seperate sector ticket on any airline other than CX cos they will be the most expensive out of HKG. There are many airlines you may take which will cost only have as much. Check out fares on zuji.com
EK, ET has some of the lowest fares between HKG and BKK if you're not fussy on miles.

Thanks for your reply, perhaps it's the terminology but the OW web site says........
"You can take as many flights as you like with your oneworld Visit Asia visitor pass (minimum two flights). You need only confirm the first sector of your itinerary when you make your booking. You have the flexibility to select the dates/flight times of any other sectors (subject to availability), provided you ask for the flights to be left "open-dated."
My understanding is a flight is one take off and landing therefore a return is two flights?

You are correct, I think GB was refering to the CX Asia pass product, which is quite different from the Oneworld Visit Asia pass. It works as you expect, and is even intended to do what you are doing (to get you to visit other cities in the region, for reasonable cost, after flying any OW airline). In most regions these Visit xxx passes are not cost-effective, but out of HKG they probably are. A good plan overall, and a HKG stopover is so much more interesting than BKK (at least to my tastes).

6,
thanks I thought I'd got it right, still a bit unsure about some aspects of the deal.
We've been to HK,SIN,KL and BKK(12 times) and love BKK especially the weather in December v's UK.

next question.........
Is there a "one stop shop" to MFU a return to HK(BAEC) along with the visit Asia pass(oneworld) and if possible hotel and transfers in BKK(BA holidays)?
My concern is if I have to use 3 different "people" and there are availability issues with any of the elements I may end up bouncing to and fro.

Can anyone tell me what class the Oneworld Visit Asia passes book into? It seems that the Cathay "All Asia" passes book into M (= no AA miles), but I can't see any indication of the booking code of the Oneworld product.
