Please check this itinerary:

HKG-BKK-SIN-SYD-LAX-JFK-LHR-MOW-LHR-CPT-JNB-HKG

35,804*1.5 = 53,706 Club Miles

:)

hairpeace Oct 22, 2007 5:17 pm

P.S. -- Please also post suggestions on how to add more miles to the journey.

serfty Oct 22, 2007 6:10 pm

You have 9 spare segments of which 2 can be in Asia, 4 in USA, 4 in SWP, 2 in Europe and 3 in Africa.

Starting in HKG severely cuts your options in Asia.

If you can skip either BKK or SIN, then you can have HKG-nrt-cgk-nrt-bkk/sin-SYD at the beginning to add ~9,500 base miles.

If using SIN you can go -SIN-per-cns-mel-akl-SYD-LAX- to add ~3,750 miles.

Do -SYD-JFK-LAX-DFW-BOS-DFW-PHX-LHR- for another ~8,300 miles.

Without optimizing Africa or Europe a 20 segment itin (skipping BKK) is:

HKG-nrt-cgk-nrt-sin-per-syd-akl-SYD-JFK-lax-dfw-sea-dfw-phx-LHR-MOW-LHR-CPT-JNB-HKG for nearly 60000 base miles.

Along the same lines as serfty, "without optimizing Africa or Europe a 20 segment itin," but skipping SIN instead of BKK, and for 1065 more base miles:

HKG-DEL-NRT-BKK-SYD-PER-BNE-AKL-SYD-JFK-etc...

Excellent, but can the highlighted be YVR instead?

serfty Oct 23, 2007 5:32 pm

Yes, however I used SEA as it's a First Class flight on a DONEx against DFW/YVR being J class only.

With First there are extra Miles/ SC's/TPs for QF/BA/CX members (not such an issue for AA members).

I understand.

Just curious --

Assuming that the entire itinerary you posted is F throughout, how many SCs will I earn with a bronze Qantas card? I tried using the online calculator but could not make it work.

serfty Oct 24, 2007 1:26 am

The point is moot since about half those segments don't operate with a First Class cabin.

Plug the itinerary into Milage Monkey and it indicates if they all scored F you would earn 3120 SC's.

However, J only may be available on all those shaded boxes under 'first' in the SC earning table; thus reducing the total to 2,720.

If you're after miles and not SCs, per se, the following change would net you 4,844 miles more base-miles:

Instead of:
...JFK-lax-dfw-sea-dfw-phx-LHR... (13,168 miles for this portion of the itinerary)

Fly this instead:
...JFK-LAX-SJO-LAX-SAL-LAX-LHR...(18,012 miles instead, plus a few visits to sunny Central America)

Only caveat is that I believe LAX-SJO is seasonal.

I am pretty sure you can't do this. Only one Aussie transcon is permitted and SYD-PER-BNE are two transcons IIRC.

You might correct this by doing SYD-PER-ADL-AKL, although I don't remember if QF still operates ADL-AKL and if they do, they'll use a 738 which is not as good as the 747 or the 763 in C (which they use on BNE-AKL).

This is the exact formulation in the OWE's terms & conditions:

Within Australia only one flight is permitted between Perth and Brisbane, Cairns, Melbourne or Sydney or
between Darwin or Brisbane and Melbourne or Sydney

Hm, I calculated and got 2600 instead.

Sorry for that... the list of Australian trans-cons has changed quite a lot over the years, and I didn't catch that BNE-PER was on the list.

Milage Monkey indicates SYD-JFK may not have First class cabin; I know for a fact that QF107 (indeed AA7365) indeed does.

There's your 120 SC's.

Note that the routing I provided is not optimised and it should be possible to squeeze a few more Miles/SC's/Qpoints out of it.

New routing:

HKG-NRT-DEL-NRT-BKK-SIN-SYD-AKL-SYD-JFK-LAX-DFW-SEA-DFW-PHX-LHR-MOW-LHR-CPT-JNB-HKG

I replaced Jakarta with Delhi because there is new J seating on the latter.

BKK has been added because F is available NRT-BKK as well as BKK-SIN on CX.

Also, it turns out that there IS F available NRT-SIN (JL719)!

Too many Asia segments.

What time of year would this be? You could substitute DFW-ANC-DFW for DFW-SEA-DFW if it's between May and October. Around 2800 more miles and it's F because both are in the US.

And of course LON-MOW is nothing compared to DXB or MCT etc.
