The dollar probably hasn't weakened against MUR - a year ago (5/31/06) the rate was 0.032310, and at the moment it's 0.322995, not even a tenth of a percent different. At that rate, MUR188000 = USD6072. Rates are from xe.com. Since it's not particularly likely that the dollar was significantly stronger in past weeks, I simply must have been dreaming about the $5600 price I thought I remembered. Nothing is happening in Mauritius, price wise, sorry for the alarm.
Hope the $8200 price tag gets straightened out, though.

No (although generally true). Some places have higher taxes in business/first than in economy. UK being a good example. Also some countries charge a luxury tax for business/first class tickets originating there (eg India).

BA MRU quoted (on May 16th) the base price of the AONE4 as MUR 215000
($6718) plus MUR 45040 ($1407) in taxes plus MUR 9580 ($300) service fee. Total cost MUR 269620 ($8425).
Yes, NRT-SIN is booked as A with JL, though given the comments here I might be safer booking NRT-HKG-SIN with CX instead ? Shame to do that though, because the only CX A HKG-SIN is a long flight via BKK.
Apart from the MRU-LHR, the itinerary is open, so I'm going to ask for them to recalculate based on MRU-(LHR)-NCE, NCE-(LHR)-YVR, JFK-(SYD)-AKL, AKL-(SYD)-HKG, and SIN-(HKG)-JNB. I'll let you know what that does to reduce the taxes.

It is difficult making comparisons about extra charges of tickets purchased at different times and with different itineraries. My AONE5 ex-MRU in Sep 06 had extra charges of MUR29,000 and, of course, did not have the new $300service charge. But the general principle still holds, try to get a breakdown of the extra costs-- I was initially being charged $800 for a stop over at LIM!!!
As an added point, when I had the ticket rewritten 3 days ago, the AA tariff people insisted that they had to include a $60 surcharge on a BA flight from last October- claiming that BA had neglected to include it-- as unlikely as that sounds. I paid it just to get on with the ticket reissue.

In any case, you should insist that they list individually each element that they're adding to the basic fare. Besides solving the puzzle of their surely incorrect total, it'll help keep AA from back-charging you $60 for a BA segment. And chances are good that you'll find that among other errors they've charged you the full GBP80 for each of your departures from London - due for premium-cabin long-hauls but much less for EU destinations, and not applicable to transits.

Apologies, I can't count to 5
Clearly forgot that in fact my ticket covers Africa, Europe, NA, SWP and Asia ie. AONE5 which explains why the base price is MUR215000. Am waiting for a breakdown on the cost of the taxes...
