Although if any lounge agents are fit to be called dragons on the QF network, they're definitely going to be the MEL based ones!

Even an angel can a have a dragon day but I have to say MEL gate keepers have been extremely nice and helpful to me, and I go through MEL a lot (well, not like some QFFers around here, sure, but a few times a year).

I have a question for Viajero. When I reach Emerald it will be after my last AA flight. Do I call AA and have them make the annotation to my PNR, or do I call QF (which is my FF scheme) and get tham to make the annotation? My ticket is issued by QF.

You call customer service of the FFP you belong to (QF in your case).

Sorry to got a bit off subject, but I have a very quick question - Can you access the lounges if you have an OW flight even after you have arrived at your destination, or can you only do that before the flight?

On the basis of OW status, only before a flight. A few airlines have Arrivals Lounges at a couple of places but access to them is not covered by OW rules.

One often suggested option is to get your FFP to fax you a statement with your new status (maybe an email might work as well) and present that to the dragons - again it seems like only BA are the challenge here. I will experience this later this year when I hit EXP in the middle of a DONE4.

After passing from QF SG to QF WP during the early stages of a DONE4 my status the remaining QF segments updated automatically; they did not for the CX, AA and BA segments.

I had to call each airline separately and have them do as I quoted above. However, this was in November '05 and processes may have changed since.

This varies. There are many different versions of the OW rules, even if we limit the list to those in the English language. Some (including those in AA's elite brochures, downloadable from aa.com) simply say that you must have a oneWorld departure on that day, without saying that it must leave from the airport at which you want to use a lounge. Under those versions, as long as you departed on the same day that you arrived, you ought to be able to get in. I have used a lounge on that basis more than once. Others have reported different experiences.

(There may be airport regulations that prohibit arriving passengers from using a "departure" lounge, as at LHR, or separation of inbound and outbound passengers that makes it physically impossible. Either makes oneWorld rules irrelevant.)

Better still, if I fly from SJC to LAX and, say, UA to somewhere else, I can use lounges in both SJC and LAX.

Oops, I meant OW flights for the first sectors. Let me rephrase the two scenarios:
* If I fly CX in from HKG to SFO (arriving same day) and take a flight on the same day from SJC to LAS on SWA, I can still use the Admiral Club in SJC.
* If I fly AA from SJC to LAX and, say, UA to somewhere else, I can use lounges in both SJC and LAX. (By the way, I have not tried the Flagship Lounge in LAX. I would like to try out if I can.)

As far as having the card...I was thinking about this when I checked in for my CX flights last week. At no point was my card asked for -- the Emerald status on the BP was good enough at both TPE (which, btw, has no mechanism other than trust for using the F section) or in HKG at either the Wing or the Pier.

Most situations are like yours, except:
* There is a change in status since your booking/ticketing, e.g. OP's case.
* BA may sometimes ask for your card.

In TPE, the F room is at the end of the J lounge. There are really nothing special about the F room except it is not as busy as the J lounge outside (unlike HKG, where there is quite a big difference between J and F).
