Except for fuel surcharges, the bulk of the money being talked about here is assessed by governments or airport agencies, so it doesn't matter what carrier you fly. Fuel surcharges are around USD50 on long-haul routes flown by OW carriers; perhaps Skyteam carriers haven't discovered that revenue source yet, or don't apply them to awards. xONEx are paid, not award fares.

Yes, I'm aware that it's a paid ticket. I guess that this is one reason why I try to avoid the UK on most of my trips. Luckily my FF plan, NWA WorldPerks hasn't gone the route of a lot of other carriers and bundled ridiculous fuel surcharges into rewards (fingers crossed). Let's not give them any ideas.
