KRT Turnround?

Has anybody recently tried an immediate turnround on the BA LHR-KRT route? If so, I'd be very interested in knowing about your experiences! Is a visa necessary if one is just flying in and out again within 2-3 hours of arrival? If so, can it be bought at KRT or must it be obtained in advance of the trip? Would BA deny check-in without a visa in your passport? There are some fairly discouraging reports about the KRT airport. Is it really as bad as some say? I searched for answers to these questions in the archive but couldn't find anything. LHR-KRT-LHR is clearly a rewarding mileage run on an xONEx but do the potential hassles associated with getting in & out of KRT outweigh the (mileage) benefits? I have an xONEx reservation on hold but have not yet ticketed.

There was some discussion about Khartoum a year or so ago, when the route first became available, and I remember only that it wasn't viable in the end; the search function should find that past discussion. One of the risks with including KRT on a OWE is that if the US imposes trade restrictions in the future upon Sudan, due to the situation in Darfour, the OWE ticket becomes invalid for travel upon AA (due to US law). So you could wind up including KRT and excluding AA, making it a rather expensive mileage run.
