Can't comment on your MAD-FRA question, but I took 4M's new service MIA-EZE back in December in Y. I thought everything on the flight was fine, though I'm not so sure about their meteorology department. On both flights we went through some significant turbulence that could have likely been avoided with a little bit of re-routing. The only frustration we had was with the secondary ground security leaving EZE (probably not LAN employees) and with a LAN policy that wouldn't allow carry-on of beverages in MIA (the TSA rule had been lifted for more than a month by that point).

Probably not. At certain times, there can be horrible turbulence in the equatorial latitudes. I've had more on UA than LA. Occasionally, it can be like a serious earthquake for an hour or so. Your "little bit of re-routing" could have added hours to your flight. The air was probably clear, too.
