None within the rules of the Oneworld Explorer, and it makes no difference where you fly from to get back to North America.

Thanks for the information guys, guess this won't work for me this time around . Will just have to take a trip to Tokyo in Dec instead and round out my year end qualification that way

A DONE3 of NA-Eu-Asia-NA. NA to EU 1 segment, EU 4 segments, EU to Asia 1 segment, Asia 4 segments, Asia to NA 1 segment, NA 6 segments (2 stopovers max) = 17 segments

If VAZE did some of NA segments after arriving back in NA will this allowable ? Does the 10 day rule only apply only to international segments or the complete trip as ticketed?

No. The international flight back to US/Canada marks the 10 day rule, and there is no workaround.

Thus the opportunity to purchase two extra segments except in continent of origin has been written out of the rules?

Those ads definitely don't work... forgot there were ads when I went through LAX last week, until I read this thread again.

Does anyone know if I can stay "in transit" in HGK or do I have to pass through customs when arriving there? (need to know if I should get a visa or not). Thanks once again everyone
You can very easily stay in transit at HKG, but if you're a US national you shouldn't need a visa, and customs there (IME) is lightning quick. If you have a long layover the express train to central or kowloon is a good way to kill some time, it's hyper-reliable so you can time your return easily. And if you can check your bags (or they're checked through already) it will be cake to clear customs and head into town, the train is literally right outside the door from the customs area.
