I'm in London now and i'm really impressed about the powerful of an emerald card.
I'm BA gold card holder.
I bought 2 separate tickets
1) mil-lhr-jfk in economy on BA (Q class - which is the most discounted eco class on the route)
2) nyc-yvr in econmy on CX (in H)
MIL-LHR as expected
LHR-JFK --> upgraded to WT+
JFK-YVR as expected
YVR-JFK --> upgraded to C/J
JFK-LHR --> double-upgraded to C/J

Your also travelling in peak summer season just before kiddies go back to school so most carriers are overflowing down the back and thus making things ripe for an op-up. OW-E will of course help your chances of an op-up.
