Ticket Validty for RTW fares

What is the ticket validity of a RTW fare? IS it 1 year from first flight sector or 1 year from ticketing?

1 year to fly the first segment plus 1 year to finish the trip; total 2 years.

Very strictly I believe it is "plus 1 year to start the final segment" - so you could squeeze and extra day or two there!

Ahh, such precision, to be truly appreciated by Phileas Fogg and FTers. I stand corrected!

I actually flew on the last day + 1 of validity once, but that was due to a schedule change that took the last flight past midnight. Luckily I was protected as it was for dated tickets and they didn't make me fly 24 hours earlier. Every agent noticed the ticket validity date, though, and commented upon it, so they do look closely.

On the other side of 'look closely', one time when BA reissued for me the agent mistakenly used the original ticket sale date + one year for the "'valid until' date. As that date was well before the last scheduled flights I was ready to be challenged and have to argue the rules - on my particular coupons, that date was printed in bold 72-point font, raised red letters, and somehow seemed to be illuminated by a little spotlight - but no one mentioned it. (A plus for having reservations in the computer, I suppose.)

I've just noticed that my handwritten DONE5 tickets (all segments dated) were all printed with "not valid before" and "not valid after" with the date of each segment (for example not valid before 8/22 not valid after 8/22 for a segment dated on 8/22).

So far I haven't had any trouble flying on dates other than those printed, but was this an error of the ticketing agent?

I've seen that on dated tickets where you are flying a lot of segments back-to-back (i.e. a mileage run presumably). I think they do it to try to stop you extracting coupons and deciding not to fly them. But, as you say, when it comes to the crunch it doesn't seem to matter.

Who issued it?
