A reissue question

Hi all,

I've got a ticketed AONE3 (ex-CAI) and I've used CAI--xxx-xxx-xxx-ORD in the Spring. I'll use the rest of the ticket in November.

I've got there ORD-LAX-HKG-CMB-BKK-SIN-LHR-HEL. My question is: if the civil war really starts in Sri Lanka and the country becomes a no-go destination for a while, do I have to pay something to get that part of the ticket changed? Would the situation change if CX cancelled the flights to CMB and that part of the ticket became unusable?

I've never had to do any route changes to my previous AONEs. Do I handle it with BA in CAI or can any BA office do the changes?

/hv

If the flights are still flying then I guess you would have to pay the change fee. If they cancel them I guess you wouldn't.

Any OneWorld airline can reroute/reissue the ticket in principle, although it is easier to persuade a carrier who has at least one long-haul segment remaining on the ticket.

Note also that BA will charge GBP25 in addition to the US$125 change fee as their additional fine for actually asking them to provide any service in return for your thousands of dollars purchasing the ticket. (I fear that QF may also raise such a charge - CX and AA are the best placesa for reissue if you can use them.)

AY will also do the reissue for you in HEL, they do not care if there's any AY segments or not but they do charge you extra fee (50eur) on top of the $125 general fee.

During SARS many airlines permitted free reissues, so there is some precedent. The current level of conflict has been going on in Sri Lanka for decades, and there were no free reissues even when the airport was attacked and several airplanes were destroyed a few years ago. So there are precedents both ways. If the route is no longer operated, it is an involuntary reroute and for dated sectors you have a choice of CX paying for you to fly a different airline (e.g. SQ), or of changing the routing. For open-dated sectors it becomes a free re-issue (you don't have the choice of forcing travel to the ticketed destination).

It sounds fair to me, but will all OW airlines honor this? I have my doubts.

I'll hijack hvisti's thread for a reissue question of my own (I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but just in case): should I wish to upgrade my AONE3 ticket to one with an additional continent, as permitted by the fare rule, I'd end up paying the difference between the already paid AONE3 and the new, post-price-hike AONE4 price, plus the reissue fee and the currently higher fuel surcharges? Right?

Edited: see this thread.

Maybe I've added wishful thinking when I read previous discussions of this, but what I think I read is that all conditions that applied when your ticket was first issued, including pricing for additional continents, continue to apply. The things like fuel surcharges and "incidental" fees aren't mentioned in the star file and thus the airlines are free to mess with them.

So, how would the agent even know what the old price is?

The fares department keep such things on hand for reissues etc... up to 2 years sometimes!

All airlines have to keep all fare rules for 2 years all the time (since some tickets are valid for 12 months after 1st segment, which can be 12 months after ticket is issued). The airlines must be getting tired of this game, lately a lot of fare rules have restricted validity to 12 months from date of issue, not date of first travel; however for OWE it is still up to 2 years.

I looked with search but couldn't find 100% answer for this:

Reissue for a ticket that was issued prior to this "surface segments are included in total of 20 segments" rule. Can I still have the max. 20 flight segments + surface segments as per rules on the date of original ticket issue?

Thanks for clarifying this.

It has been reported here that yes, if the ticket was issued prior to the change then the rules current at time of issue apply.

I got both my own and my wife's DONExs reissued (both ticketed originally before the new rule and both with surface segments - hers an e-ticket and mine paper) after the change. AA USA needed "clarification" from a supervisor before okaying the changes; Qantas Travel Centre in SYD (no AA presence in Oz - feh) reissued mine without a peep - not even sure the agent knew about the rule. QF did manage to remember about their AUD75 nuisance fee on top of the USD125 reissue fee however. :(

CX and change fee

I am in the middle of a RTW Global Explorer 34,000 A.

Needed to make a flight time change only.

My ticket was issued by AA. CX is now charging approximately U$D 40 to make even the simplest change on ANY type ticket not issued by them.

When did this start?
