Itinerary

Was hoping to borrow the expertise of the folks in this forum as I'm not too familiar with one world awards. I fly Delta for the most part. My nephew is going to Australia to work for 6 months and my present is a ticket to get him there. He would like to spend some time travelling on the way home. Is this itin. possible, if yes how many miles for a coach award. Thanks again for any help or input.

ATL-LAX on AA stopover 3 days
LAX-SYD on Quantas

Return out of HKG or BKK or any Asian airport 6 months later on either Cathay or BA to somewhere in Europe, preferably London, but anywhere is fine for his purpose. He'll find his own way back to ATL.

I believe the double open-jaw could be a problem (only one allowed).

This looks to me like a good case for a OneWorld award, which is based on mileage. I'm not sure whether the OneWorld award lets you end in a city other than the one where you began, but that's an easily solved problem.

If you can end in Europe, then a routing of ATL-LAX-SYD-BKK-CDG is 19974 miles according to the great circle mapper, which costs 100,000 miles. For a routing of ATL-LAX-SYD-BKK-LHR-ATL, that's 24,264 miles and costs 120,000 miles.

There's information about OW awards in this forum's sticky and at the AA web site.

Thanks for the help. The One World Award is the way to go. You do have to return to the same city. 2 open jaws was a no-no. Booked him

ATL-LAX layover 3 days
LAX-SYD Sydney for 6 months
HKG-LHR layover a couple of weeks
LHR-ATL

Great circle and AA had the mileage come in at 19639 mi which is going to run me 100,000 miles for a coach ticket, he's young he'll like coach , not a bad deal.

Just a minor point: you do not -have- to return to the same city. You do in your case, but that is only due to the open jaw in the middle. In other words, this itin would also be ok: ATL-LAX-SYD-HKG-LHR.
