CMB Turnaround - Airport Update

I am in the Lotus Lounge in Columbo, a vast improvement over the old CX lounge here. Also, the new terminal in the airport has opened, so that we deboarded the plane via a walkway rather than transfer by bus. Much more convenient.

And with internet access - that is very nice!

Are the foot reflexology people still there? They had been under the escalators that went up to the restaurants and lounges.

Didn't even go that far. Walked from the gate in the new terminal to the transfer desk to get my boarding pass. And then walked 75 yards back to the Lotus Lounge, so didn't even go into the old area with the shops and feet people.

But, this begs the question... why am I still doing CMB for a mileage run. Surely there must be longer/better options in Asia? Problem with DEL is I think you need a visa even if you just anticipate a turn-around (transfer), and you can't get that at the airport; has to be arranged beforehand.

I agree that's a very good question.
Stay a couple of days and enjoy the beaches (just avoid the monsoon like all the rest of SE asia and subcontinent)

Stay a couple of days and visit the hill country. Even the best hotels are reasonably priced. And a new (toll) road is planned for Colombo - Kandy in the next few years.

Stay a couple of days and visit Sigiriya. Amazing geology and amazing cultural heritage sites.

Stay a couple of days and learn to watch (and understand) cricket. Even a Yank can do that - just ask me

And yes I agree the opening of the new terminal building is wonderful..........

YMMV

Happy wandering
