Desparate need for help with DONE5

I am from Tampa, Florida and have to decide on an RTW beginning April,2006 fairly soon. So far, the plan is:
1. TPA-LGA, New Yorik
2. JFK, New York-HKG (US-Asia), overland HKG to PEK
3. PEK-HKG - stopover
4. HKG-BKK
5. BKK-HKG - stopover
6. HKG-AKL - New Zealand - overland AKL to WLG
7. WLG-SYD - Australia -
8. SYD-JNB - South Africa
9. JNB-CPT
10.CPT-DUR
11.DUR-JNB - JNB to DAR - have to pay my own way. Suggestions?
12.DAR-LHR - Europe. Suggestions for avoiding Europe altogether?
13.LHR-MIA - Miami
14.MIA-TPA
The agent suggested getting separate Discover Australia tickets and to do the same for East Africa. I was also told returning to US straight from Africa is not possible. I must go thru Europe, but to me it merely adds to the cost of another continent without any benefit. I have a feeling I am not making the best possible use of RTW ticket.
I would greatly appreciate advise from others on these issues. Thanks.

On a OWE, you must include Europe if you go to Africa, as there are no flights from the Americas to Africa.

Have you considered a Star Alliance RTW? Beginning in March, you can use SA on *A RTWs, and that would presumably solve your issues of traveling within Africa (SA has JNB-DAR flights), as well as offering direct flights between South Africa and the U.S. *A has different rules (one of the most significant is that you can't stop over more than once in the same city), and it's mileage-based rather than continent based.

Pending detailed suggestions from the wise and giving souls who populate this forum, you really should spend a few hours just reading through old threads in this forum. Even the wisest and most helpful don't know your mind, budget, and travel goals so you'll be far ahead mining posts for data that applies best to your needs.

I'd not ever use an xONEx and fly only 14 segments, but I suspect there are those here who (or whose companies) buy them and use the minimum allowed.

I'd not ever buy one in the U.S. Besides cheaper prices, you can include 6 (or 8) glorious segment from anchorage down to central america, and effectively make two trips out of it.

I'd not likely ever buy 5 continents.

There is no path between Africa and North America that won't cost you Europe.
