That is irrelevant and all airlines will do this (though some may help you to reissue the ticket). The OP had paper tickets which showed Y class of service but he had a PNR for J class. IB refused to let him fly J class with a Y class ticket. I have no problem with IB doing that, it is reasonable. The problem was that the tickets were not reissued by AA to show J as class of service for that sector. And getting awards reissued when waitlists clear is the responsibility of the ticket holder.
