Best use of African segments

I have an upcoming trip to South Africa in May and I have found out that a DONE4 (ex WAW) wouldn't be much more expensive than LHR-JNB-LHR in C, so I'm considering doning my second RTW (Thanks Spotwelder and the rest of you for tons of advice on the first).

In order to get maximum miles I'm looking for advice how to use the Africa segments best, hopefully without wasting the possibility of the LHR-DXB-LHR MR.
Any ideas?

Best

Check the current WAW DONEx pricing - it was increased last year and IIRC is no longer competitive with other origin points, especially IST and even GIB.

Since NBO is no longer served from JNB you're pretty limited on the use of your African segments - most legs under 800 miles.

Starting in IST would not preclude the DXB flights. Turkey is not in the middle east.

Thanks

I made an itn, but when I checked it at http://jph.bytestacker.com/award.htm it said "Rule violated!!!! [JNB-LHR] Max 1 segment(s): Ghana/Nigeria transit"

What's the problem?

The problem is that you are entering Europe twice. You can only do that if one of them is in to or from Ghana, Nigeria or (now) Kenya.

There are three ways in and out of JNB: to Europe, to Asia (CX to HKG) and to SWP (QF to Sydney). You need to take one of them on the way in and a different one on the way out, or you need to go overland from JNB to Ghana, Nigeria or Kenya, and then you could fly out from there via LHR.

To go to the places on your list you would need to route:

ist-lhr-dxb-lhr-jnb-hkg-nrt-hkg-del-hkg-jfk-sfo-dfw-anc-dfw-sjo-lax-lhr-ist

and you have two spare free segments to use in Africa if you wish (or two paid extra in one of the other continents)

That's correct. For Europe-originating xONExs, you can't include Africa on an east-to-west RTW except by entering from HKG or SYD, unless you make your own way to/from NBO as one of the entry/exit legs. Dumb.

Could anyone please clarify if an Ex-BKK Aone4 would allow LHR/NBO/LHR (less than 24 hours)/JNB/LHR. I seem to be getting mixed messages.

thanks

No it would not. You would be entering Africa twice, which is not allowed. There is no ambiguity in the rules on this.
