Arrow Royal Jordanian to join OW

Announced this morning by OW. Expected to become a fully-fledged member sometime between the end of 2006 and early 2007.

I wonder how many Middle East airlines rejected OW before RJ took the offer.

Also see VT's other thread in the BA forum: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?p=4736512

Interesting options for tying in CAI, BAH, DOH, CMB and BKK . Shame it's only a 2 class airline though.

I wonder if the xONEx rules will change; e.g. 6 European sectors instead of 4?

Interesting. Although I would have probably preferred EK, it looks pretty good. Three or four new trans-atlantic flights, including what would be the longest at about 6200 miles, and a lot of south-east european connections. For example, going from Athens to Istanbul is now only 1500 miles instead of 3000 through London. Hopefully a seat upgrade was part of the deal since they have a year and a half before joining.

I have some 10K America West miles (soon to be combined with US) from a trip on Royal Jordanian. Does this mean they are no longer, even indirectly, part of Star Alliance?

Depends on the original contract between the airlines. But, generally, the partnership agreements do survive for a while such as AA and Swiss, AY and Swiss, QF and US, etc. However, not always (AA and Lot).

Example of BA and HP's tie up timetable

Isn't RJ also a 'dry' airline?

No. See here: http://www.rja.com.jo/pc/crown_class.asp "accompanied by a fine assortment of fermented and soft beverages"

What's "fermented" beverages?

If it's wine, booze, liquor, then why doesn't it say so? I disntinctively remember that someone once told me that RJ is a dry airline. Meaning alcohol free.

Thumbs down Royal Jordanian in oneworld???

Please tell me this is not true?? Are oneworld THAT desperate to have a Middle Eastern carrier? WHY on earth RJ? they are a terrible airline and Amman's Queen Alia Airport a catastrophe to say the least..next they'll be allowing Syrian Arab into oneworld!!....What happened to the Skytrax 4 star airlines like MEA, Gulf Air, Emirates, Qatar??? Surely working hard to get one of those on board would have made more sense.

Emirates wants to remain independent and if joining any alliance, they might consider to join Skyteam. Qatar is working together w/ LH and maybe they will join *A

If that's true then

The last alliance I would want EK to join is Skyteam
