Not flying whole segment - illegal?
All,
Thanks to the hugely useful advice on this board, I have an AONE4 booked ex-CAI. However, as always, plans shift and I am looking at the best way of doing the trip in two goes. It seems to make sense to "break" the trip in BKK as flights to LHR are cheaper from there. My question is this: I have a HKG-SIN segment on the ticket. CX do that journey in first with a stop in BKK. If I get off the plane at BKK and never do the BKK-SIN part of that segment, am I in trouble? My gutfeel is that it is not allowed. The next segment is actually HKG-JFK (I was going to make my own way from SIN-HKG).
Thoughts? Alternatively, if I want to reroute the ticket, who would I contact? BA at CAI?
These tickets are confusing, but fun!

There are a few problems. You won't be able to check your bags to BKK and sometimes CX would check your boarding pass when BKK passengers deplane. You won't be allowed to get off with SIN boarding pass.
You should be able to get it rerouted by any OneWorld carrier at any office although it will be easier with BA who issued the original ticket. No need to go back to CAI for it.

Otherwise, you could just slum it and fly on www.airasia.com, www.tigerairways.com, www.jetstarasia.com, or www.valuair.com.sg from SIN to BKK for very cheap fares.
Sometimes the real airlines also offer very competitive fares on this route, though I doubt you'll find very much in terms of acceptable oneway fares.
