Coach class on an AONEx?

If one is flying an AONEx and has to book a segment in coach, is the class still L or something higher?

If A or D are not available, an AONEX should book into Y, not L.

It depends why you are in coach. If it is because it is one of the Economy Class only flights (AA3000-5999, AY domestic, LA domestic or EI domestic) then yes you book into Y. But if it is simple lack of availability then you have to book into D for business, or if that is not available then L for economy.

Details here: http://www.hardlink.com/~markdu/OWFi...kingCodes.html from which:

"29N . * NORMAL FARE BOOKING CODES MAY NOT BE USED ON
30N . RTW OR CIRCLE PACIFIC FLAT RATE FARES."

So you have to use the codes in the table there.

This page on AA's Uk site (I believe) lays it out very nicely and neatly:

Nice link. So basically an AONE* or DONE* will never need to be booked into L inventory? (i.e., there is no "L" in the "First Class Inventory" column of the table, only A or Y)

If booked on a flight using an AONE4 that offers 1st class and economy class ( e.g. US domestic ) and there is no A class availability, then you need to book into L class in order to travel on that flight. If booking onto a flight which only offers economy class then it will be booked into Y

That's not quite the way to read the table. If there's no inventory in the column you paid for, you look in the next column to the right, and book into the class shown for that column.
