help please: transit part of DONE4?

Need some urgent help on this as I need to change plans overnight.

As the first part of my DONE4 I want to do: syd-lax-jfk-lax-lhr

The first LAX is connecting QF107 to QF3233, so not a stopover but a transit. After a couple of weeks in New York I want to rtn to LAX (as a milage run) and fly onto LHR.

When I enter into the trip checker I put syd-jfk omitting the transit. It works this way. Is this cheating?

If your flight number changes in LAX then it is two segments, if you take the direct flight (same flight number) all the way to JFK then it is one segment, even though the flight makes a stop in LAX.

Edited to add: and in the first case (two flight numbers) you are no longer able to get back to LAX on a direct flight, because of the 1 transcon only rule. In the second case (SYD-JFK direct), you can.

Thanks & 1 more Q

Thanks for the help, this makes sense now.

Unfortunately there is nothing available on the direct this week so I will have to find other ways to make up the milage. I think I have that worked out!

One other question is- I've paid for 2 extra sectors (in Europe), are they included when counting the 34,000 miles?

There is no mileage limit on a Oneworld Explorer fare (your OP mentions a DONE4)
