Transit in DUB
All,
I have a OW ticket and I have a segment in it that goes LHR-DUB-FRA. This is on Aer Lingus. The DUB stop is a connection only. The whole thing is on the same OW Ticket with the same PNR.
My question is twofold:
1. Will they check my luggage directly from LHR to FRA?
2. Can I remain airside in DUB, so that I do not have to go through customs and such?
Your replies would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks for your reply. How sure are you of this? The reason I ask is that I do not have a Eire Visa and I do not want to apply for one if it is not needed.
Thanks,

This was the system at DUB last year, until circa April 2005. Then DUB airport failed a security audit, and all hell broke lose in May 2005. 3 hour lines to get through security, and (perhaps affecting you) closing of the transit facility. For a while transit passengers had to reclear security, and they had no provision for this so had to go landside, meaning clearing customs into Ireland. I don't know the current state; I changed all my routings to avoid going via DUB. Presumably by now (3 months later) things have settled down and transit is re-opened (it may only have been closed for US-bound pax). So if you want to know precisely, you need someone who has done this within the past month, as it has changed several times this year. It was an abysmal situation for a while (note that DUB is not a good airport at the best of times, poor facilities, the road into town is under construction making for long delays getting to/from the airport, and EI often has several hour long delays at check-in, along with the long security lines.

Just to add that even if the airside transfer was reopened you would still need to go through passport control there are three - one at the exit to each pier. The only way to avoid this is to choose flights that use only pier A but this is mainly domestic/UK and FR but with FR you need to go landside to checkin.
The problem is that DUB does not seperate dom and int paxs and doesn't use photographs as in LGW or MAN

Also, will EI give me both BP's in LHR?
Thanks...

Unfortuately there is no-way you can stay airside, except if both flights go from pier 'a' and have onward BP - EI from this pier are just locals. LON normally uses pier B as does SNN in both cases paxs don't mix so have to go lanside and re-enter.
