aa OW award
i have to go to hkg and tlv this summer and am looking into a ow award.
lax-hkg-tlv-lax is 19643 if flown dirrectly. obviously there are no ow flights from hkg to tlv and i would have to go via lhr so i would fly lax-hkg be in hkg for 6 days hkg-lhr-tlv and stay in tlv for 2 weeks then fly back tlv-lhr-lax.
this is about 23000 flown miles. am i correct in my assumption that as long as i dont stop in lhr for more than 24 hours this route is "kosher"
the 20k award is 180 in F not a bad deal

I've been doing a lot of research on FT lately concerning oneworld awards using American Airlines AAdvantage miles. The consensus appears to be that a less-than-24 hour stop is a "transit" and not a "stopover." Therefore, the following itinerary would count as 19,643 miles (assuming each of your stays in LHR is less than 24 hours):
LAX - HKG (stopover) - LHR (transit) - TLV (stopover) - LHR (transit) - LAX
LAX - HKG (stopover) - LHR (transit) - TLV (stopover) - LHR (transit) - LAX
