Thoughts on thrifty biz-class LAX-JNB?

A friend wants to visit South Africa from the United States, in biz class. He asked me for guidance since he knows I do a bit of premium-cabin travel, generally using OWE's or occasionally airline-pair rtw's.

An OWE doesn't seem to fit him too well - I don't think he's a die-hard traveler, and doesn't have a mileage account or other easy way to get to a cheap starting point, so I was casting about for cheaper/more limited rtw's or some other regional fare that would fit his needs. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I think his basic interest is LAX-JNB-LAX in biz class, but an appropriately priced rtw would be acceptable.

The NZ/VS/SQ "Escapade" RTW is around US $5200 in J when bought from the US - details on the SQ website. With NZ's new (VS-style) J and VS' own UC, plus SQ J, not a bad deal.
