Advice needed JFK-LHR

I just booked a JFK-LHR on BA. I am AA Plat/Saph. The flight is in about a week and I dont seem able to select my seats. I called BA and they said that once 33% of the seats are assigned the rest are done at the airport. I mentioned my staus to no effect but on the OW website it says Sapphires get priority seating.
Any suggestions? I am dreading the middle seat all the way to London and back.
TIA

You can do online checkin 24 hours before departure, but only if you are a BAEC member (I think). OLCI gets excellent seat selection available as a rule (due to others being unable to select their seats). If you aren't a BAEC member you are out of luck (you cannot join until you fly BA on an F, J or full-fare Y segment -- discounted Y does not qualify), and about the only solution is to get to the airport 4 hours before flight time when check-in opens. Adding your non-BA FF number to the PNR sometimes helps but I think it is a manual process at BA as it seems to be overlooked as often as not. In theory you will be assigned a seat before non-OW status pax.

I seem to remember a bit vaguely that this rule has been relaxed. I just browsed the BA website, and the OLCI options do not seem to mention the requirement of being a BAEC member to use it.

Who can use Online Check-in

Customers who have booked directly with British Airways, or via a Travel Agent, can use Online Check-in provided they are checking in for a British Airways operated flight

All customers via Manage My Booking (from 24 hours before scheduled departure time)

Passengers on any ticket type e.g. eticket, cardboard ticket, paper ticket

Online Check-in is not available for passengers with bookings that contain children or infants as British Airways needs to ensure children and infants are seated in appropriate areas on-board the aircraft for their own safety

Great tip...no way I would have thought to do that. I never use OLCI since I usually check a bag and never saw the benefit of it..So thanks...I hope it works ^
