OT: Spotwelder back on line

Dear Fellow 1Wers,

Sorry but I have been away in some strange 1W destinations for the last couple of months trying to do some aviation safety stuff to keep us all flying. These have included:

African hub with the holding position lights next to the runway missing

African end of spoke with the yellow lines painted in white and the white lines painted in yellow

A run on almost the last BA flight out of BOG with the beautiful Christina as the stewardess

A South American spoke with a business jet with a false overpainted registration (that aircraft had more dog hair over it by the time I had pointed that one out than was ever envisaged by the factory interior designers)

A South American AA destination with more black vultures than were healthy for the average person.

A home base of a 1W carrier where the runway vacated signs were so close to the runway, you had not vacated

An Asian spoke where the fire cover was not enough to let me get a flight out on 1W, but I did anyway then closed the airport behind me!

A flight to from Germany to Egypt that started off by heading North for half an hour.

An Egyptian check-in that would not take my e-ticket as proof of travel and it took a personal appearance by the Captain to get me on the flight (ah, having an airside pass is a wonderful thing)

A large European freight hub where the US Army helicopter was impounded for not being able to pay the fuel bill and stopped me from taxiing out as it was parked infront of my aircraft

A Ryanair hub that was full of birds

So I am back, with QF Plat renewed and looking forward to catching up with old friends here again.

Next world tour starts mid March.

YES I WILL UPDATE THE STICKY!

Hi, spotwelder, welcome back.

Missing from your list is an encounter with the Agriculture inspectors at SCL, bent on relieving you of some forbidden imports. Didn't go to Chile after all? I had them all primed up, ready for you! Now I have to tell them to look out for you during March.

Spottie meets customs

I forgot to add to the list that I brought back some parts of an Instrument Landing System that got hit by a DC-10 and were full of mud.

At this point, the customs guys got rather interested in the contents of my bag, broke into it and gave me a grilling at LHR. In the last 1000 international flights through LHR and LGW I was never stopped once, but as soon as you get off the BOG they start to track you. Well done boys, reassuring at least.

The localiser antenna is being cleaned up and mounted for the office aircraft accident collection...

Happy landings and keep out of the ILS antennae!

Great -- still enjoying BA's 34" pitch in international business class?

Welcome back.

Maybe you or someone else could help me sort out a AONE question. I have an upcoming RTW ex WAW. However I might need to change the staring date, Is this possible without penalty fees? People seems to have mixed opinions on that issue.

Best

The rules are very clear about this:

-before departure unlimited changes are permitted without charge, origin TC2/3, after departure date/time changes are free, rerouting resulting in USD 75 fee (+some airline specific fees might apply...and any change in taxes, ofcourse)

-exception is TC1 (=U.S.) where you cannot change the 1st internation flight (and flights before that within continent of origin) less than 7 days before departure without the USD 75 fee.

The rules might be very clear but AA in Britain nontheless wasn't aware of this when I spoke to them yesterday.

Hmm - this thread seems to be a mix of "welcome back, Spotty" and "questions re ex-IST RTWs". I think the latter might get more help in their own thread, and am going to do my best to split this appropriately.
