First DONEx

Hi All,

I am planning a DONEx (hopefully a DONE3) ex BKK commencing n Sept 05.

I've currently worked out 2 itineraries. the first one will have to be DONE4 but because I am a bit tight with my dosh I was wondering if a DONE3 will achieve the same thing. I don't want to go to Europe..........this time, if I can help it.

Can I get you to take a look and let me now if I've broken any rules?

Also can someone let me know if I will get QF status credits on QF flight no's even though it is a codeshare and not on a QF plane?

Lastly, has anyone got ideas on costs and airlines on flights YYZ-HAV return?

First, you can't use any flights operated by Alaska for a OWE.
Second, your second itinerary isn't a rtw as you don't cross the Atlantic and Pacific oceans and don't have flights in TC1, TC2, and TC3. You should look at a circle pacific fare if that itinerary is what you want to do. Any rtw that includes the SWP is required by the rules to be an XONE4.

Firstly I want to welcome the_captain to FT - and want to take credit for getting him into RTWs!!!

And now down to business.

If you want to go to SWP you cannot do a xONE3 - in your example you are in contravention of the rule of xONEx which required crossing both the Pacific and Atlantic. Your DONE3 is more akin to a Circle Pacific in J.

On the DONE4 itinerary - there is no YVR-YYZ direct service on OW - you have to go via another port (ORD or DFW) - thus 2 segments. But you have spares left in NA.

Otherwise looks good to me!

Sorry Jerry A. - A Newbie mistake.

One more question - the QF Website says that D and A customers may only fly a maximum of 34,000 miles. Is this the case? I suppose if QF say it on their website then.......yes it's the case.

If so - then this is what I am thinking

Option 1 - 33,690 Miles
1: BKK-HKG: 1st of 4 (Asia)
2: HKG-YVR: intercontinental
3: YVR-ORD: 1st of 6 (North America)
4: ORD-MEX: 2nd of 6 (North America)
5: MEX-DFW: 3rd of 6 (North America)
6: DFW-LAX: 4th of 6 (North America)
7: LAX-LHR: intercontinental
8: LHR-MEL: intercontinental
9: MEL-SIN: intercontinental
10: SIN-BKK: 2nd of 4 (Asia)

If not (and I hope that that rule is bollocks) then I'd rather do this.

Option 2 - 37,554 miles
1: BKK-HKG: 1st of 4 (Asia)
2: HKG-YVR: intercontinental
3: YVR-ORD: 1st of 6 (North America)
4: ORD-MEX: 2nd of 6 (North America)
5: MEX-DFW: 3rd of 6 (North America)
6: DFW-LAX: 4th of 6 (North America)
7: LAX-LHR: intercontinental
8: LHR-MEL: intercontinental
9: MEL-BME: 1st of 4 (Southwest Pacific)
10: BME-MEL: 2nd of 4 (Southwest Pacific)
11: MEL-SIN: intercontinental
12: SIN-BKK: 2nd of 4 (Asia)

Global Explorer is a mileage based fare, Oneworld Explorer is not.

the_captain, you are looking at the Qantas GLOBAL EXPLORER web page. That's the wrong one. You need to look at the other page accessible from the Around the World Page.

This correct link is to the oneWORLD Explorer page.

Basic things to keep in mind: You
  • must fly "across" both the Pacific and the Atlantic Oceans.
  • can have up to 20 segments/flights.
  • may only effectivly visit each continient once.
There are many more resources available to help; one of the best is the oneWORLD Validator.
