QF baggage info on RTW

Hi,

I just picked up a ticket from my TA, I'm departing tomorrow. The ticket was issued by LH and the routing is MEL-LAX UA, JFK-FRA-LYS-FRA-JNB LH and JNB-SYD on QF. I just found out that even though technically I'm flying around the world, it isn't a RTW fare, and therefore up to FRA the ticket says PC and from then on it says 20K. How strict will QF in JNB be? I'm flying around the world, but from segment to segment I go from 2 pieces 32kg each (=64kg) to 20kg. What am I supposed to do? Leave 3/4 of my luggage in Europe? Do they have any knowledge of RTW tickets in that I could try to convince them that it should be 2PC, or will they go exactly according to the ticket?

Any advice? Thanks

If the tiecket is on the same reservation code than the 2 pc rule should prevail. I would go the TA and have him change the allowance on the ticket.

If it is two seperate tickets, than you might be screwed, and should have bought a YRTWSTAR1..But I guess the agent might be helpful in the end .

If it is on the same PNR have the tickets reprinted with the 2 pc rule. Insist this is done.

Well it is on 1 recloc but unfortunately both the issuing agency and the issuing airline (LH) both say it is not a RTW fare, and RTW rules do not apply. To/from USA is 2PC, everything else is 20kg. I would have bought a regular RTW had it not been almost double the price.

All airlines out of JNB are very strict about baggage weight and allowance, including carryon weight. You will have to pay quite a bit to QF for the excess. Might be cheaper to buy a Qantas Club membership which gives an extra 10kg allowance and some leverage in negotiation (presuming you don't have an QFF status).

I'm a student, and can't really afford Qantas Club membership. I contated LH here in NY, and they put a note into the PNR that I am entitled to PC. If Qantas refuses, I'll just have to get LH in the airport to reissue the ticket there.

If your ticket says 20Kg then it is 20Kg that you're entitled to. If it was isssued as a separate ticket, as you mentioned, then reissuing the ticket will still show an allowance of 20Kg. Do not be surprised if LH putting a note in your booking does nothing.

If taking 64Kg of luggage is important to you, I would suggest cancelling the ticket and booking an actual RTW ticket and so have a ticket which does have a piece based allowance otherwise keep your luggage to <20Kg or expect to have excess charges of AUD30 per Kg

LH did you a big favour. That comment is worth its weight in gold (given the cost of excess baggage these days). It should work for QF, though it would be better if they were in the same alliance instead of competitors. Do your flight coupons also say 2PC?

It is all one 1 ticket - UA, LH and QF. Up to FRA it says PC, everything else has 20K. My TA told me that on her computer it said PC the whole way through, but when LH issued it, according to their logic it wasn't PC all the way through, and manually changed the baggage allowance. At least LH here in NY saw the light. I'm in the middle of the trip so I can't exactly cancel and buy a regular RTW. With the note by LH that I am entitled to PC, if QF refuses, I'll go to the LH ticketing at JNB airport for a reissue then back to check in.

In LYS the LH checkin agent saw the note in the PNR, but confirmed with a supe that it was ok. In JNB I was at first told that I was in excess of baggage allowance. I told her to look at the note in the PNR. Everything went smoothly, until DJ in SYD decided to charge me excess.
