Question Flight Routing Rule Query

I am looking at options for a xONEx. I have a query about sections 4(C)2) and 4(H) from the following oneWORLD EXPLORER FARES document. Excerpt follows:
Code:
4. FLIGHT APPLICATION/ROUTINGS
.
(C) ONLY ONE INTERCONTINENTAL DEPARTURE AND ONE INTERCONTINENTAL ARRIVAL
PERMITTED IN EACH CONTINENT EXCEPT AS FOLLOWS:
.
2) TWO PERMITTED IN ASIA WHEN ONE IS A TRANSFER WITHOUT STOPOVER OR ON
DIRECT SINGLE PLANE SERVICE BETWEEN THE SOUTHWEST PACIFIC AND EUROPE.
.
(H) TRAVEL BETWEEN AUSTRALIA AND EUROPE ON A SINGLE FLIGHT NUMBER IS
CONSIDERED TRAVELING SW PACIFIC-ASIA-EUROPE THROUGH THREE CONTINENTS.
.
Does this mean that if I start from, say, SWP -> EUROPE via ASIA on two segments with a "transfer without stopover" (e.g. QF127 SYD-HKG, QF29 HKG-LHR 4 hours later), I can come back via NA and do up to 4 segments in ASIA before returning to SWP?

Conversely if I flew "ON A SINGLE FLIGHT NUMBER" QF29 SYD-HKG-LHR, have I then "done" ASIA and its 4 segments and may only return (say via NRT)?

Am I missing something here?

There are greater experts than me, but from my reading of that star file and lots of comments on FlyerTalk, I'd say you are correct on your first statement but not on the second.

In your second scenario you are still just transitting Asia and can use your 4 Asian segments after North America still.

That rule about transiting Asia is there to insure you have to include Asia as one of your xONEx continents.

Valid Routing?

So this would be a valid routing:

SYD-1-HKG-2-LHR-3-<3 europe segs>-7-<4 NA segs>-12-<3 Asia segs>-16-MEL-17-AKL-18-MEL-19-AKL-20-SYD

No - you can only leave and enter the originating country once. Aus and NZ are separate countries (only US/Canada and Norway/Sweden/Denmark are regarded as one country for the purposes of this rule).

Ok, How about this?:

SYD-1-HKG-2-LHR-3-<3 europe segs>-7-<4 NA segs>-12-<3 Asia segs>-16-MEL-17-PER-18-MEL-19-BME-20-SYD

That is valid, provided that the NA and Europe segments meet their respective rules (e.g. only one NA transcon flight and no trip to HNL in your case as you'd have to go on to SYD as the only available flight and that then ends your RTW when you reach your city of origin).

Thumbs up

number_6, Thanks for that. I actually live in MEL and was trying to see if I could get a couple of end of circut trips by starting in SYD. The originating country rule put paid to that.

I is good though that I can go from SWP to europe via HKG/SIN/BKK without using up my ASIA routings. (MR maximiser)

I may investigate starting in another continent. Of course, relative A/D/L ONE* costs are an issue.

Remember that you can only have two stopovers in your continent of origin so this would be a lot of mileage-running at the end.

Yeah, I live in MEL, so I will probably need to have a look at originating in a country outside Australia, maybe NZ. (au$400 more on a LONE4)

FWIW:
Code:
SYD-HKG-LHR-HEL-FCO-LHR-LAX-MIA-JFK-NRT-HKG-SIN-HKG-NRT-MEL-PER-MEL-BME-SYD
        <----Europe---> <N.America> <-------Asia------> <Sth. West Pacific >
How can I improve this for max miles. I know I have two segments left here. Europe has 1 more available and NA has three (even though I can only use two)

If your intention is to have more than two stopovers in Aus/NZ, originating in NZ will not help. You will have to originate outside the SWP continent.

With my business I need to travel to NZ regularly. I am trying to factor in travel there as part of this in trying to make it as cost effective as possible.

I am looking at a LONE4 and Australia is the least expensive place to purchase one. NZ is 10% more and other nearby countries much more.

On a similar line, can I just check: if I originate in Europe, travel N America and Australia, and then come back to Europe on a single non-stop flight number that touches down in Asia, I must still pay for a ONE4 rather than a ONE3?

I think the answer is yes (unfortunately) but I just want to check.

Thanks

Yes - the above mentioned rule merely allows you to re-enter Asia in direct/non-stop flights SWP-Europe via ASia if you have already been to Asia. But Asia still counts as a continent even if only transiting it.

Thanks, that's what I thought. Although the BA agent I spoke with said it is a ONE3. I might ask again and take a vote...
