How long will BA hold the tickets?

Due to unforeseen circumstances (care and management of ill relatives) our anticipated start date on a DONE4 ex-IST is slipping once again. Orignially next week, then rescheduled to late January, it now looks like mid-February is the likely start date.

BA in IST have the reservation and say they can issue the tickets and have them ready for us to pick up when we arrive in IST. However, they have the January start date, which now looks doubtful.

I feel like with current exchange rates the sooner we lock in the fare the better. If we pay for the tickets now, does anyone know if there's a limit on how long they can hold them before we get there? From the OWE rules it looks like we can make a date/time change on the first segment without penalty, just not the routing.

A date change on the first segment of OWE causes repricing of the fare -- rather important if there has been a fare change since the original issue. Second and subsequent segment date changes are exempt from this (obviously).

Sorry to ask an obvious question, but have you asked BA IST how long they would be prepared to hang on to your tix? I'm sure that they may be lenient, given the circumstances.

Aha - so in the rule extract below, lines 136/7 negate line 138?

131N TRAVEL ORIGINATING AREA 2/3:
132N .
133N . * UNLIMITED CHANGES PERMITTED WITHOUT CHARGE.
134N AFTER DEPARTURE
135N .
136N . * CHANGES TO THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT AND
137N . TO PRECEDING FLIGHTS ARE NOT PERMITTED.
138N . * DATE/TIME CHANGES ARE PERMITTED AT NO CHARGE.
139N . * ALL OTHER ROUTING CHANGES ARE PERMITTED AT A
140N . CHARGE OF USD 75.00 PER TRANSACTION. IF CURRENCY
141N . OF TICKET ORIGIN IS NOT USD, CONVERT THE USD
142N . AMOUNT AT THE BSR.
143N . * THE NUMBER OF CONTINENTS/EXTRA FLIGHT SEGMENTS
144N . MAY BE INCREASED/DECREASED. THE PASSENGER WILL BE
145N . CHARGED/REFUNDED ACCORDINGLY.
Thanks, helps me decide -

Not yet - they are very slow to answer emails and the time difference makes voice/fax communications really hard. I will do so next week if I must, but I really wish I knew what our firm dates are, rather than crying wolf. Of course it would also be nice to know if prices are going up, by how much and when. Or maybe not so nice.

You are misreading it due to the dodgy formatting. Lines 134 is a heading relating to lines 136 - 145. In other words, for origination in Area 2/3 it is only after departure that changes to the flights up to and including the first international flight cannot be made. This is only relevant if you start your journey with a domestic flight.

Note also lower in the Starfile that there is no penalty for cancellation before departure for tickets originating in Area 2/3.
