AA changes stopover/connection rule on Oneworld awards?
I was under the impression that Oneworld awards issued by AA allow a stopover in each city only once and two connections per city as long as the stay was less than 24 hours.
One AA agents now tells me the 24 hour rule does not apply if a connection exists (whether or not it is available is irrelevant).
In other words I arrive HKG at 9pm. CX has a 1145pm to SYD that night but it is sold out for award space in first or business. It does have economy.
I booked the next morning at 9am so still less than 24 hours but now AA is saying because a connection exists within 6 hours that even though is NOT available in first or business that they consider this a stopover (my 2nd so not permitted) rather than a connection.
Has anyone else had this problem? I will also post on the AA forum to solicit additional responses.
I was always under the impression that the 24 hour stopover rule applied even for international tickets.
