waitlist J, Put in Y - J empty Compensation?
i flew to ibiza on thursday night, was waitlisted for a flight which i knew was not full in J, but anyway - the BA agent said don't worry it will clear,
as i was going to change my destination.
got the boarding passes chucked at us at the service desk and didn't think to check the class as the que was soo long wouldn't have time to change.
went to the lounge was allowed access without showing FF cards - im QF Plat - so supidly still thought nothing of the seating.
the rows were towards the front but we were not seated together.
so thought we can get someone to move around on plane
- suprise rows 1,2 only for J rest was Y.
we asked about getting seated together and was told everyone was partnered up (they weren;t)
after the plane doors closed we approached the purser and had a polite discussion (polite argument ) about why we couldn't sit together let alone sitting in J as we had a AONE4 ticket the purser didn;t know what C/D J etc meant and was just doing his job,
J had 2 paxs in it - and they said we cannot sit together up front no matter what unless we hand over 100 or so p/p
tried to call the ground staff - couldn't get through, said he would try through the captain,
they said no we were in Y!!
half way through flight they got a fax and moved us up front -
the whole time it looked as though we were trying to upgrade for nought and delaying the plane etc . v embarrising for us both , then other pax's made comments about people being upgraded but they can't use the J loo's etc.
the purser later apologised etc..
All we cared about was sitting together not so much the J seats.
BA cust serv just said write a letter - why should i pay out for J and write a bloody letter..
what should i expect.?

GB or BA
Your flight was operated by GB Airways. I would copy the letter to them as well at their Gatwick Beehive address. PM me if you need more.
There is no compensation for being carried in the wrong class on AONEx! You probably got stuffed on the A no availability, D no availability therefore L situation. You should have checked that your "entitlement" to a Club seat was entered into your booking, whenever you get the wrong class on confirmation. However, I suspect it was slightly different. There is usually D availability on the Ibiza run.
Check the rest of your AONEx ticket now!
I wish you every luck with customer services. They are likely to be a lot more sympathetic to a BA EC member than other 1W holders. They get bugger all when BA stuffs up. Welcome to a global alliance!

waitlisted in D- ticket says D- awarded miles for D class on the BA EC (partners)
only the seat was missing - i assume it was the BA agent at service desk who stickered the ticket or the services desk just sticking us in Y
the purser also said how it prob wasn't gb air fault - more likely BA.

Y class
I guess what has happened is that the check in agent has seen the confirmed Y on your ticket (with a hidden D waitlist) and then done a no brain Y check in seat allocation for you.
If you had gone to the potential Mrs Spotwelder at the ticket desk for a yellow sticker as confirmed J then that would have worked.
If the miles and status has posted to QF, I would leave them out of it.
I would copy in GB as there are some GB issues here. The purser should have been able to recognise the A class ticket as a First Class ticket, not just a Club.
