Using AA Miles for Oneworld Upgrades

Hi, this is my first post... maybe this subject has been discussed previously... I have tons of AA miles, trying to upgrade on Iberia, will be traveling on CX as well in a near future... Can I upgrade using AA miles? any other suggestions?

As far as I am aware it is no longer possible to use AAdvantage miles to upgrade on any airline. http://www.aa.com has all the details of what you can do with the miles.

Except on AA flights, of course.

Only Asiamiles and Swiss' Travel Club may use their miles to upgrade CX flights.

But I think you can use Asia Miles to upgrade on other OW airlines?

Yes, but on a reducing number of partners, and on many of them only if you hold an e-ticket. Se here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=346064

ACtually from what I understand is that it is still ok to issue paper tickets and that Asiamiles will then still issue MCOs for those upgrades. ie BA. Note not all TAs can issue e-tickets, especially on the 'special' fares.

GB,

I'd love ity if that were the case, but I don't see how you can interpret this page: http://www.asiamiles.com/am/1,,22535...2_eng_,00.html in that way. It seems to me that if you want an upgrade using AsiaMiles on BA or AA then you must have an e-ticket. I don't see how the text can be interpreted any other way. (It is OK on CX, KA and LX to have a paper ticket.)

Hi. You are correct as I have just checked with MPC. You really need an e-ticket on BA in order to get an upgrade. I guess everyone has to issue an e-ticket with BA or AA now.

The only exception is CX, KA and LX.

This is really annoying for people who want to upgrade long-haul segments on L/DONEn tickets that are still often issued on paper (e.g. by EMECO in Cairo)

Don't even think of risking this one. QF has been known to "throw the book" at anyone breaching the Terms and Conditions of the QFF program.

Keep in mind that if you upgrade a QF flight with QF points eg L to U, and the upgrade is cancelled due to fraudulent use of points, and L class is then fully sold, you may not be able to downgrade on that flight ie you lose the seat.

It's just not worth it.
