As far as I am aware it is no longer possible to use AAdvantage miles to upgrade on any airline. http://www.aa.com has all the details of what you can do with the miles.

Only Asiamiles and Swiss' Travel Club may use their miles to upgrade CX flights.

Yes, but on a reducing number of partners, and on many of them only if you hold an e-ticket. Se here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=346064

GB,
I'd love ity if that were the case, but I don't see how you can interpret this page: http://www.asiamiles.com/am/1,,22535...2_eng_,00.html in that way. It seems to me that if you want an upgrade using AsiaMiles on BA or AA then you must have an e-ticket. I don't see how the text can be interpreted any other way. (It is OK on CX, KA and LX to have a paper ticket.)

The only exception is CX, KA and LX.

Keep in mind that if you upgrade a QF flight with QF points eg L to U, and the upgrade is cancelled due to fraudulent use of points, and L class is then fully sold, you may not be able to downgrade on that flight ie you lose the seat.
It's just not worth it.
