Okay so no body really cares about this programme, but he could earn 100%miles in L class on both airlines on SWISS TRAVEL CLUB. Okay there's no status, but the earning and redeeming possibilities are great...the only change he has to go through is maybe change the return LAX-SYD-PER on QF to either LAX-NRT on AA and NRT-PER on QF , or to CX entirely.

See:

And click under "Detailed Conditions" for booking classes.

Do you really think the redeeming possibilities are great with Travelclub? I haven't analyzed it too closely, but it seems likely to go bankrupt within 12 months making Travelclub just as good as Ansett ... and Aussies are all too familiar with those possibilities.

If possible he could start off PER-SYD-BKK on AA/AY codeshares, these would earn the 100% q-miles/q-points

L class earnings

OK, it appears I was completely wrong. Qantas L class flights earn 50% miles on the AA program. My friend spotted this on the AA site while trying to sign up for AAdvantage, so that makes AA even more worthwhile. I'm surprised nobody corrected me on this!
