Qantas drop D class from MEL/SYD to DPS

Just advancing my RTW trip and I notice that QF have dropped any "D" class starting 1st Jan 27

This puts rather a crimp in my plans....

Is this normal or likely to be updated?

Regards

Second week of March 2026
EF does confirm that MEL-DPS on the 738s do not have D (ie D0 all flights)
OTOH same week there is D available on all of the 332 flights from SYD (the lowest is Wed is D1 ?)
May SYD welcome your wandering

I thought that I would check direct with QF

I would post a link, but as a newbie I'm not allowed yet

Shows that there are no D seats at all on the QF43 SYD to DPS from 1st Jan 27 until those released today 21st Jan 27. There are still D seats available on 31st Dec 26 and prior

Looking the QF timetable QF43 SYD DPS it is a A330-200. That aircraft has business class seats. As would any QF aircraft AU to DPS.
https://www.qantas.com/au/en/qantas-...s-330-200.html
They may be planning an aircraft swap to a smaller or larger aircraft.
Or more likely not selling discounted business D class. QF have not dropped "D" class. Just not currently offering for sale.

Looking for 01 Jan SYD DPS QF43 is selling business flex. That maps to C or J class. QF have Discount Business, Business Sale Business, Flexible Business. QF make it very hard to find the booking class letter at/before booking. (see image below. not consistent with selling web site)

Much of Australia is on holiday in January. Schools finish the acedamic year late December. Many people take 1, 2, 3 or 4 weeks annual leave [some people have more!]. Are also public holidays 25 Dec, 26 Dec, 01 Jan and 26 Jan (Australia day). Schools start the new acedamic year Wed 27 January. Progressively people will will start back at work, often on Mondays (4, 11, 18, 25). While not a public holiday many will not be working Monday 25 Jan. After Australia day 26 Jan all back to normal [Wed 27 Jan].

From Friday 1 Jan will be 1000's going Australia to Bali for a few weeks, after spending Christmas and New Years eve with family and friends. Peak of peak time. Hence no discount fares. Only people booking SYD/MEL - DPS now (~11 months out) are those who *must* travel. Same with DPS hotels.

On OW DONE* getting D class is never guaranteed. D is discount business class below full business (I D C J). Some routes can be hard to find D class. Not unique to Qantas.
Could book that segment into L economy and hope D class becomes available later.

It looks as though this was a temporary aberration. D class seats are back-in-the-room

Which schools finish late December?

Is it possible you're being overly specific as to when schools return? I'd be very surprised if all schools returned on 27 January.

For 2026 Victorian state schools returned 28 Jan and end 18 Dec 2026 (so more mid Dec). In 2025 was 29 Jan to 18 Dec 2025.
Source my (hard copy) diary and small ~A5 calendar sent out by local state MP. (he sent 3 this year).

QF announced an international sale on 3 February (yesterday AU time). May have been a reshuffling of seat in fare buckets. Still early January a busy time AU to Bali
