Best route to Bali? JFK-BPS

I am planning a trip to Bali from New York and am oneWorld Sapphire (AA Platinum). Any advice on the best routing? I'm seeing Cathay Pacific via Hong Kong (HKG) or Qatar via Doha (DOH). Both involve pretty long layovers on the way home so lounge access/quality/hours is also a concern. Thoughts?

What is your criteria for best?
Cash ticket?
Class of travel?
Travel when?

More detail:
- Planning to fly coach.
- I'm paying out of pocket, not with miles. I'm expecting to pay ~$1,500.
- trip is in mid-to-late Jan 2025.

My criteria:
- Level of service expected in coach on Cathay Pacific vs Qatar.
- Lounge access in HKG vs DOG for a OneWorld Sapphire traveling in coach.
- Minimize likelihood of disruption or being stranded

I should also add: I am hoping these miles would be MM qualifying on AA? Or should I ask that question in a different forum? I'm only 67k away from 2MM.

Both CX and QR have highly-rated Economy Class:

Beware! Most CX Economy Class fares do not earn any AAdvantage miles:

Yup, I was about to say exactly that, only the very high priced CX economy fares earn anything with AAdvantage. Best to take QR if earning in economy is a priority. Which is a shame, I think the CX lounge would be better in transit and believe CX has a tiny bit more legroom in economy.

If you like to drink when flying, QR actually has a pretty decent liquor selection in economy. I've only flown QR in economy once and that was only a 3 hour flight, service was very good though. I've never been on CX in economy, but know their business dining isn't as good as it used to be.

If you go on QR, AA will sell that as a codeshare as well. It would be worthwhile to compare what you'll earn in LPs on each code. AA's certainly won't knock your socks off on a $1500 ticket, but QR is probably only 25%, so may be better on the AA code. If you're on a 25% earning fare on the QR code (very likely for that price) then you're looking at a bit under 5,800 LPs, you might be closer to 8-9,000 LPs on an AA code.

American and Qantas have a discounted premium economy fare LAX-SYD-DPS... In the range of $US2000
Dates are limited - 2 weeks starting in mid February works when I looked....
The incoming connection at SYD is horrible but would be worth it for the PremY seat transPac.
Find that (google flights) then hold on AA and see what the JFK add ons would cost.
Slightly more comfortable wandering

Thanks dvs7310 -- Definitely worth it to book via AA code share. The price difference is basically the same same as seat selection prices and lots more LPs. Good call!
