Linking 2 OneWorld Flights

Have a trip booked from NYC to Tokyo on AA, but recently we changed the itinerary slightly and are going to go to Beijing for a couple days to start. There's a JAL flight that goes to Beijing from the same airport in Tokyo ~2 hours after our flight, which is great if it was 1 ticket, but probably a bit too close to get bags, re-check, etc. Is it possible to get the bags checked thru to Beijing if I show the JAL flight to the AA team at check-in, or is this impossible/unlikely?

OneWorld Emerald if it matters (know it doesn't but at least the JFK check-in team will be slightly more knowledgeable in theory).

AA policy is not to through-check bags across separate PNRs -- not even for AA to AA. And on separate PNRs, AA will not protect you if you should miss your ex-TYO flight due to IROPS.
