DONE 4 routing check please?

Hi the good people of FT,

I am unsure about the rules with regard to 4 trips per continent. I understand that surface sectors include the 4 trips but what happens if a transit is involved, such as:

JFK-CDG (stop over) - AMM (stop over) - TLV (stop over) - AMM (transit) - CDG (stop over) - MAD - JNB.

The CDG - MAD will be a surface sector.

The rules are very clear on this point:
4(h) A minimum of 3 and maximum of 16 segments, including surface segments between any 2 airports, are permitted for the entire journey. Free flight segments within each continent are limited as follows:
Africa 4
Asia 4
Europe/Middle East 4
North America 6
South America 4
South West Pacific 4
(the word "flight" is bolded in the rules)
You have the allowed four flight segments in Europe/Middle East, plus one surface segment there. Your itinerary is fine.
Also, you can stopover in AMM on the second visit. There is no restriction on stopovers, other than being allowed only two in the continent of origin

Surface sectors are allowed and don't count towards any flight limits for each zone. They do however count towards the total limit of the ticket (16 sector max per ticket).
This isn't a problem for most oneworld fare products, but can be limiting on a RTW if you have a lot of flights.

I once had 10 sectors on a DAS13, which is limited to 8 flight sectors.
