Anyone here ever try to do Oneworld Explorer with the LEAST segments?

Just out of curiosity, has any of you flyertalkers ever attempted the following:

Oneworld Explorer with only 3 (Thats right, only THREE!) SEGMENTS? And even purchased ex-USA (I know, there is a 10 day minimum stay on such tickets!) instead of ex-CAI?

Sample routing: JFK-NRT AA, NRT-LHR BA, LHR-JFK AA

While I would think it quite likely that someone, somewhere, for some reason has done such a thing-- I think it's a safe bet that no flyertalker has/would ever do such a thing.

I disagree. Certainly no FTer would want to do such a thing, but if one had business in NRT, a RTW ticket often will be cheaper than a roundtrip ticket, and, unfortunately, the demands of business do not always permit the time to add extra segments. That said, if I were doing this, I'd travel ex-BOS and return to NYC (paying my own way back to BOS), so that I could add some extra domestic segments on at the end.

DIsagree all ya' want-- I still say I can't imagine any FTer having done a 3-cont ONE ex-USA w/ only 3 segments-- it's not all that cheap, at all, and I seriously doubt it's been done by any o f the knowledgeable flyers here.

Yep, I've done it on a biz trip last year - LAX-LHR, LHR-HKG, HKG-LAX all in less than 5 days.

I've flown an insane amount the last 2 years. Maximizing miles is not a goal for me anymore. Maximizing time with my patient wife is.

I'm in the middle of an 8 segment RTW trip at the moment. I could have spent my free upcoming weekend taking meaningless side trip flights to BKK or KIX, but I'd rather get some sleep.

OWE requires 10 days minimum travel precisely to prevent use for this purpose (when issued in area 1). You were either very lucky and got away with a major breach of the rules, or it wasn't a OWE ticket that you were using.

That's true. They waved the rule for me. They tend to be a lot more forgiving to their Executive Platinum members flying on J class tickets. They allowed a change to my first international flight this week also (moved back by 1 day). That's definitly against the written rules.
