CAI FAQ?

Dear all,

I (along with many) have quite a few questions on whether it's worthwhile to buy tickets from CAI rather than in the countries we live in.

Obviously, we can do a search here. Let's face it, not all of us do, and even when we do, it can be a hassle trying to locate the answers.

I want to put together a FAQ on here. However, I don't have any answers (except those posted here), only questions.

Do you, the experts, see the point of having such a FAQ? I understand people like CAI simply because it's the flavour of the month? It's not always the cheapest location...? It also doesn't necessarily work for every OW airline (in terms of purchasing)...

I know Gaza's excellent site, but I think there're many questions surrounding the whole purchasing process. This FAQ focuses on how to buy and what to do rather than the rules of OW tickets.

If you do see an advantage of having this FAQ, I'm happy to put together a list of questions and answers for your critique?

I've been toying with the idea of doing a FAQ for OWE, similar to what Patron did for *A. It is probably a good idea as it will save many repetitive answers. However, I'm in the middle of a RTW and won't be home for another month so have at it!

As for CAI, if you are flying business or first CAI is the best price currently. That is due to the poorly valued Egyptian Pound. This won't last forever. Either the EGP will appreciate or the powers that be at OW will jack up the price. It has gotten a lot of visibility in the press and here.

Which is a good reason not to do a faq, in my opinion. The fare is there. People can find it. The answers are here. They can find them. There is little reason, imo, to hand them the info on a silver platter.

I'm with Darren on the question of a CAI FAQ. But a more general OWE FAQ would be good. One thing worth including would be a list of the ticketing locations where people have had good or bad experiences with issuing or rerouting tickets.

I too am of the school of thought that such an effort would only serve to call more attention to CAI-- which, if history is any judge, will also serve to significantly hasten the demise of CAI as a cheap starting point.

I second that thought.

I agree wholeheartedly with JonNYC and virtualtroy. Virtually all the info is here already; we should stop drawing attention to CAI.

Leumas, just so you don't think there's censorship going on here... these are voices of reason...

However, a decent OW FAQ that deals with many of the common questions that come up on this board would be a great idea.

Firstly, thanks all for the advice you've given in the past couple of months. I'm off to CAI in a few days to pick up my DONE4 which will make for an excellent month's travels in January.

Secondly, ALL the information is here and it was kinda an adventure finding it. So I'd be against an FAQ and point to the search button...
