Worth the bother in terms of hassle, or onboard service?

I'm flying JFK-SCL-LAX on LA then connecting to LAX-JFK-SYD.. on QF107 and QF108. Hence only one transcon.. And it's ok for the N. America -> South America -> N. America (no stopover) -> Australia rule.
