So, it seems to be revolving around BA picking up slots at LHR. No doubt Swiss can do with the cash too. Seems like BA is the big winner here.

The big winner is SWISS, not BA, as they found an airline and stupid bankers who inject cash (again!) into them. Otherwise, SWISS would have gone bust within the next 12 months (for the second time).

Swiss probably will still go bust after joining oneworld. The big winner is BA.

I think this is a huge break for 1W in their competition against Star.

Consider the potential inpact on Swiss.

If Advantage members can earn 100% miles and Q points on Swiss transatlantic flights as well as connections, how many people would choose to fly BA?

Another interesting question how AA and Swiss choose to split up the Trans-atlantic market to Switzerland?

Exactly, if we can do that. Something tells me, however, that BA will see to it that mileage earning on LX flights will not be better than on BA flights...

I need a Swiss route map and timetable. This might make the Oneworld RTW a lot more interesting.

Maybe, but you never know. LOT is already included in the Star RTW's even though they don't join Star for another month.

Sorry for my ignorance - where do Swiss fly that isn't already served by existing OW partners?

Like LX scrapping its frequent flyer programme and joining the BA Executive Club programme (which they have announced - see the discussion over on the LX forum).

In the press release they list new countries being added to OW and new destinations. Cameroon is the new country and 8 destination are new in total. I am quite pleased with this addition - as it also adds more frequency to some less served growing routes in Asia and Africa (BA or a single OW airline was the only choice to many destinations African and Asian destinations before).

-----------
... SWISS began operations in March 2002, born from the former Crossair. Under its new business plan, it will operate a fleet of 79 aircraft operating 388 departures a day, serving 71 destinations in 44 countries. Of these countries Cameroon will be a newcomer to the oneworld network. Eight of the airlines destinations will also be new to the alliances map Basel and Lugano in Switzerland, Douala and Yaounde in Cameroun, Berlin Templehof and Nuremberg in Germany, Benghazi in Libya and Thessaloniki in Greece.
