J'berg to Nepal or India
We are planning a RTW trip to start in Jan 04 and at this stage are looking at the oneworld alliance. We are having trobles with the South Africa to Nepal leg. Initially we were told we fly on our RTW ticket from J'berg to Bombay using SA airlines and then purchase an additional ticket from Bambay to Kathmandu. Now it seems that it is not possible to use SA airlines as part of oneworld RTW itinerary. Any suggestions???

To the best of my knowledge, no OW airline flies to Kathmandu currently. Your best bet (although it is backtracking a little) would be to get Cathay from JNB to HKG then take a separate ticket on Royal Nepali Airlines. Alternatively, treat Kathmandu as a side trip from Bangkok or Delhi/Bombay if you paln to go there later in the trip from HKG.

Just another option but not with OW.

I want to do a nepal sidetrip as part of my Oneworld explorer ticket. So I'll also get a seperate ticket, I guess from India or bangkok. My question is, can I use miles for a Nepal ticket? I have miles with a bunch of different programs, and I know the mileage cost can be low if you start in the same area.

You can use *A miles on TG BKK-KTM but it's not cheap, 40,000/60,000 for economy/business.
From DEL there are a bunch of carriers (RA, IC, 9W, S2) but I don't think any of them are in any alliances or partners with any of the big 6.

There's flights from the middle east direct (doha) qatar airways and (abu dhabi)Gulf Air. Abu Dhabi is pretty close to Dubai so this would be an option. Flights on Gulf can be relatively cheap but they only have a Y class on this route. The best is Delhi or Bangkok. Hong Kong is not advisable since the RN flight on this route has a lot of delays. There's also a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Kathmandu on Qatar airways 3 times a week I think.)
