Visit Europe question

A trick question?

I am claiming an AA Award from Japan to Europe using JAL to go NRT-AMS-BCN (AMS-BCN on Iberia codeshare). Since this was booked using AA miles will I be able to book a Visit Europe pass or do I need to be on OneWorld metal to be able to take advantage of this ticket?

I think the answer is no. Here is the applicable rule section from the Visit Europe rules.

<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">
70N . 2. TRAVEL ON THE INTERCONTINENTAL SEGMENT INTO
71N . EUROPE AND THE INTERCONTINENTAL SEGMENT FROM
72N . EUROPE MUST BE OPERATED AND MARKETED BY AN
73N . ONEWORLD CARRIER.
</font>
You could take BA NRT-LHR-AMS but you don't specify how you are getting out of Europe.

Also, discount carrier fares in Europe in many cases are cheaper than the Visit Europe fares.

Thanks, that's what I thought.

Pretty good deal on JAL to BCN from NRT. 55k. Not too shabby!
