Standby to extend a transit to be >24 hours?
One annoyance to North America-originating OWEs is the availability of only two stopovers, notwithstanding the 6 available NA segments. Easy enough to make a mileage run out of the 6 segments, but harder to make nice trips -- even short trips out of these. 24 hours at the destination just isn't quite enough.
Is standby permitted to increase the length of a transit, by moving earlier the time of the flight that defines the start of the transit? E.g. I have BOS-DFW-LAX with DFW a 23 hour transit. So I leave BOS on the last flight of the night, get to DFW late at night, have the entire next day in DFW, and don't have to leave for LAX until late that night. Now, if I can use standby to take an early flight from BOS to DFW, I get perhaps 34 hours in DFW rather than 23, quite an improvement. Anyone had any luck with this? I would only anticipate using it on US domestic flights, where standby is ordinarily somewhat easier (as distinguished from int'l). I notice that the OWE rules don't speak to standby.
