Emirates in OW ?

I've been flying EK for a while on LHR-DXB-DEL and wondered if they had every applied / been involved with OW ? They are certainly of high enough standard & don't clash geographically with anyone esle.

Of course were they to join it would add an interesting twist to OWE flights - LHR via DXB to PER would be two continents not three, so it would be possible to a OWE 3 continents via Aus !!

Not sure of the history but I am sure they would provide good feeds into the BA/CX markets and to a lessor extent AA via BA.

Geographically it would open up OW to a huge market of the Middle East, South West Asia and Northern Africa.

Politically it would have its ups and downs. Isn't Emirate ownde by the government of Dubai - maybe that is a sticking point. Who wants to work with a govenrment in the airline industry?

I believe with UA MP you can accrue and redeem miles with Emirates. So I would guess that it is more of a Star partner?

Partner airlines: When you fly with one of our distinguished partner airlines listed below, you will also earn Skywards Miles.
All Nippon Airways
British Airways
Continental Airlines
Delta Air Lines
Japan Airlines
Singapore Airlines
South African Airways
United Airlines

Looks like it's partners are a mix of OW and *A carriers.
