BA also serves Beijing, but China is in general a problem. The best bet may be to have a PEK-HKG leg on another carrier (Dragonair or China Eastern) and proceed from there. Both KA and MU are members of AsiaMiles, so you could use miles from there to get a free flight if you wished.
You could also take the Beijing-Hong Kong train if you had time and wanted to see some of the country.

I had overlooked the BA flight... doesn't arrive too early either. How is China on visas foe EU-cittizens if I'd like to get a few days of Bejing and then take the train to Hong Kong?
And where do I find more info on the PEK-HKG train?

If you were going round in the other direction (i.e. westwards) then:
1) the jet lag would be better
2) you'd come to HK first so you could get a visa here in a matter of hours
3) you could find out all about the trains from:

i think you can get instant visa if you cross from HK to Shenzhen.
(then you take the train shenzhen-beijing)
but i have no idea about train services and the difference in shenzhen-pek vs hkg-pek train

I paid 100 Hong Kong dollars for some sort of visa just over the border from Macao. According to the stamp, it was good only for three days in Zhuhai, but there was no problem in going all the way to Guangzhou (Canton) by bus. Chinese authorities got on the bus several times and kicked out Chinese people without proper papers, but they never bothered our group (Brazil, Australia, USA passports).
